Vasant Kunj DDA Residence — Parents' Bedroom
A parents' bedroom in a DDA residence in Vasant Kunj, New Delhi, where the character comes from joinery and lighting rather than applied decoration. This case study covers the parents' bedroom.
The brief
Comfort without excess: a quiet, sophisticated room for the parents, resolved almost entirely through joinery and lighting.
Design intent
The room was developed through a design-intent presentation — “The Golden Walnut & Charcoal Retreat” — covering the moodboard, spatial zoning, lighting strategy and dimensioned joinery details for the bed wall, TV unit, wardrobe and window seat.
Joinery, drawn before it was built
Every joinery element was detailed before site work: the headboard wall with a mural flanked by cane detailing and brass sconces, an arched upholstered headboard, a cane-front TV console beside a cushioned window seat, and an olive fluted TV panel with a marble inlay and display shelving. The palette draws on walnut fluting, warm beige lacquer and brushed brass.
Layered lighting
Lighting was layered rather than applied: cove, panel and pendant sources — including brass pendants either side of the bed — let the room move from morning clarity to evening warmth.
What Indéva delivered
